MINI HELPFUL HINTS
1.      Please read your owner’s manual. It’s full of helpful hints on the operation of you new MINI and will enhance your motoring experience.
2.      ALWAYS switch off the engine before refueling, and insure the gas cap is secured tightly after each refueling this will correct most check engine light issues. However, if the car is sluggish/overheating, then play on the side of caution and contact MINI roadside assistance for a free tow to your closest MINI dealership.
3.      Remember that the MINI roadside assistance program is available to you. (866)646-4772 you will find you Roadside assistance card inside of your owner’s manual. (4years 50,000 miles)
4.      If a jump start is necessary, follow the guidelines in your owner’s manual, never use a source greater than the equivalent sized 12 v battery, (NO TOW TRUCK BOOSTERS) Note: anytime power has been interrupted, all vehicle settings will be lost and will have to be reset.
5.      When storing your MINI for a prolonged period of time,(anything exceeding 2 weeks) it is recommended to remove the battery from the vehicle and charge the battery periodically to maintain the battery health, if this step is missed the battery will fail and is not covered by warranty. (see details in owner’s manual)
6.      Alignment and balancing are only covered from 1 year up to 2000 miles; adjustments due to pothole/speed bump damage are not covered by factory warranty. Tires are covered by their own manufacture warranty. For proper tire/tread life, tires should be rotated every 7500 miles and alignments performed every 15,000, failure to do so can result in noisy and/or premature worn tires. These service items are not covered by the MINI free maintenance plan
7.      Check tire pressures regularly (cold tires: do not inflate/check tire pressure after driving your MINI more than 5 miles the heat from the friction of driving will give you an inaccurate reading), at least twice a month, and before any long motoring event. The correct PSI for your vehicle can be found on the door jamb sticker on the driver’s side. Checking your tires is detrimental to prolonging the tire life and is your responsibility.
8.      Convertibles- the soft-top should be sealed using MINI brand top sealer at least once a year, it’s like waxing your top, when the water stops beading on the soft-top its time to have it sealed. This will prolong the life of the top and is available at MINI parts boutique.
9.      Use 91 (excluding 2011 models 89+ octane) octane unleaded fuels, MINI recommends specific brands of fuels www.toptiergas.com. Wal-Mart, Costco, Sams club are NOT on MINI’s list.
10. Fuel injector service is not covered by MINI free maintenance, and is recommend every 15,000 miles due to the addition of ethanol to the fuel supply.
11. Oil changes, MINI will cover oil changes when your oil has reached 366 days from delivery or last service. They will also replace your oil when the oil service interval has been met usually between 14-15 thousand miles. This is covered by MINI’ free maintenance plan 3yrs 36,000 miles (upgrades are available).
12. Rental/loaner cars – will ONLY be provided when a warrantable factory defect occurs (under 4years 50,000 miles) that will exceed 2.0 hours of MINI factory time. Maintenance repairs do not qualify for rental/loaner (i.e.: brakes, oil change, clutch and wipers) a reduced rate rental is available to you at 30.00 per 24 hour period.
